Secret ministerial posts of former Australian Prime Minister ‘damaged confidence in government’ | Abroad

In August it became clear that in addition to his premiership, Morrison had also been appointed as Minister of Health, Finance and Raw Materials, among other things. He had a total of five ministerial posts, in his own words because he felt that he alone bore responsibility for the country during the exceptional corona pandemic.

Today’s study, conducted by former Supreme Court Justice Virginia Bell, debunks Morrison’s argument. Bell states that some of his ministerial posts had “little to no connection to the pandemic”. Bell also concludes that Morrison was trying to secure a sixth ministerial post. She calls his actions “bizarre”.

Morrison’s successor, the current Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, called the actions “characteristic of the culture of secrecy in which the previous government operated”. Six recommendations that Bell has made to prevent such situations in the future are therefore taken to heart by the current Australian government.
