Penetra played in the youth of SL Benfica and made the switch to three years ago Famalicao. He conquered a basic place there in the past two seasons and finished eighth with that club in the Portuguese league twice in a row.

Penetra meets Tiago Dantas at AZ. The two youngsters know each other from Benfica’s youth academy and last played together at the European Championships with Portugal O-21.

I am very happy to be part of AZ”, says an enthusiastic Penetra. “It is an important step in my career. The story of AZ really appealed to me. The fact that many young players get opportunities at AZ also makes this step a well-considered decision for me.

Reunion with Dantas

At AZ, Penetra meets an old acquaintance with the other newcomer, Dantas. Penetra: “Of course I have been in contact with Tiago, because we are friends. We played together in the youth academy and last summer at the European Championship. It is nice to have someone you know around you when you embark on a new adventure.”

Director of football affairs, Max Huiberts, is pleased with the versatility of the young Portuguese. “Alexandre is a defender who can play in several positions. Both in both positions central back, and right wing defender. I see him as a Dutch defender, with the well-known southern European temperament”

Number five

Penetra will play in Alkmaar with shirt number five, the old number of Milos Kerkez. Moreover, Penetra is number five for AZ. David Møller Wolfe, Ruben van Bommel, Denso Kasius and Tiago Dantas already preceded him this summer. Tijjani Reijnders (AC Milan), Sam Beukema (Bologna) and Kerkez (Bournemouth) left from Alkmaar.
