The second “2nd Peak” store, which specializes in second-hand outdoor clothing and equipment, is launched in Bern. Spread over 180 square meters and four floors, 2nd Peak offers outdoor clothing and equipment for the current season from premium outdoor brands such as Arc’teryx, Mammut, Peak Performance, Norrona and Ortovox. After the concept premiered in Zurich in 2020, the Bern store is set to open on May 6, 2023 in the old town of Bern. The choice fell on Bern because there were always inquiries from this region, according to the founder Isa Schindler. “Since the opening of the first shop in Zurich in spring 2020, we have enjoyed steady sales growth and overwhelmingly positive feedback. Me and my team are happy that we can now also make our concept accessible in the Swiss capital.”

And this is how the system works: Anyone can offer used products to the store. These are checked and selected by 2nd Peak before they are included in the range. The providers receive a third of the 2nd Peak sales price paid directly upon handover. The sales price is usually half the new price. If you live further away, you can also send your products by post and have them evaluated. The purchase price will then be transferred by 2nd Peak.

There is also an online shop and a rental service for those who want to try something out and don’t want to commit themselves.

According to the founder, around 160,000 parts have been given a second life since the first shop opened in spring 2020. The outdoor market in particular is well suited for second-hand, because outdoor fashion is durable and less trend-dependent than fashion. At the same time, outdoor clothing in particular is problematic when it comes to disposal and should be used for as long as possible.
