Sebastian Madsen: Solo album should be called A BBIT SOUL – new single “Immer nur am Handy”

Sebastian Madsen, singer of the rock group Madsen of the same name, has felt “corona frustration, boredom and lovesickness” at the same time in recent years. This combination led to a high consumption of soul music, which gave him the idea of writing his own songs. We will be presented with the result in autumn 2022 on his first solo album, for which details are now available. It’s supposed to be called A LITTLE SOUL and will be out on September 30th. A new single called “Immer nur am Handy” was released on July 8th. Watch the music video shot by Dennis Dirksen here:

Sebastian Madsen says about his new single: “‘Immer nur am Handy’ is about one of the biggest addiction problems of this time. Hardly anyone leaves the house without a phone, hardly anyone manages not to stare at a display for 30 minutes. I thought to myself: maybe a love song could help. Without preaching or too much accusation. I just want to say: I’m here! Talk to me! Al Green, Curtis Mayfield and Bilderbuch hypnotized me in my sleep. After that I recorded the song.”

SEBASTIAN MADSEN BRINGS TRIBULATION ON BOARD

Sebastian Madsen made no secret of his influences when the first single “Sei Nur Du Selbst” was released: he was inspired by Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield and Amy Winehouse, according to the press release for the upcoming record. Madsen recorded the first solo single in the same studio in Wendland, which also serves as a recording studio for his band. He was able to win over his brother Johannes as producer and Drangsal also made his contribution to the track.

Although he had been a fan of the musician for a long time, he had never met Distress personally. “After I got his number from friends and wrote him, he called me and said, ‘No matter what you ask, I’ll definitely say yes,'” says Madsen, who is very happy about the cooperation.

So the two got together to process the lovesickness of the singer into a soul-pop number on “Sei Nur Du Selbst”. “Just be yourself sings the guy on the radio / just be yourself is in my horoscope / but how does it work? / Just be yourself says the beautiful yoga woman / send your light into the world / it looks so easy for her / for everyone else too,” Madsen reports of the problem of not being able to follow the “most annoying wisdom of all time”.

The basic requirement is simply missing: to know who or what this self actually is – especially if you have just separated. “Be yourself / just listen to your heart / without you it just kind of beats the wrong way / believe in yourself and be who you are / without you I just don’t know who that is,” the lyrics continue.

With his band Madsen, Sebastian Madsen has released eight studio albums to date. Last appeared in 2020 NA GOOD THEN NOT.
