The Seattle Mariners won an epic Game 5 of the Division Series against the Detroit Tigers 3-2. This means the team from Puget Sound is back in the Championship Series for the first time since 2001.

The game at T-Mobile Park lasted four hours and 58 minutes, the longest time in MLB history for a decisive playoff game. In the 15th inning, second baseman Jorge Polanco ended the battle with a single.

“We never give up,” said Polanco: “We just keep fighting. No matter how many innings we play. We just stay ready and wait for the moment. That was my moment.”

A total of 15 pitchers were used, eight for the Mariners and seven for the Tigers.

“It was a tough evening,” said Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh: “Everyone gave everything for the team.”

Skubal show is not enough for Detroit

For Detroit, pitcher Tarik Skubal shined with 13 strikeouts in six innings. But that wasn’t enough.

In the round of the last four, the Mariners, who are the only team that has never been in the World Series, will face the Toronto Blues Jays. In the second Championship Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Milwaukee Brewers or the Chicago Cubs (2-2). Game 5 takes place on Sunday night (2:08 a.m.) in Milwaukee.
