New date again: Sean “Diddy” Combs is now scheduled to be released in February 2028 – earlier than last known.
Sean “Diddy” Combs could be released from prison sooner than previously thought.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the publicly available database now lists February 23, 2028 as the expected release date.
Discharge date adjusted again
This means that the date has already changed several times within just a few months. The last date on the authority’s website was April 15, 2028. Previously, April 25, 2028 was the expected release date, and previously June 4, 2028.
It is not clear from the published information why the information was corrected again. The latest change would reduce Combs’ prison term by additional weeks.
Speculation about rehabilitation program
When the release date was pushed back from June to April 2028 earlier this year, the New York Post’s Page Six section reported that the adjustment could be related to the musician’s participation in a drug rehabilitation program. In the United States, certain programs may have an impact on the length of a prison sentence.
A spokesman for Sean “Diddy” Combs said at the time that the rapper was taking the program seriously and was working on personal changes.
Sentencing in 2025
In July 2025, Combs was found guilty of prostitution-related offenses in a highly publicized trial. The jury acquitted him of further charges.
The sentence was set in October 2025: Sean “Diddy” Combs received a prison sentence of 50 months.
Appeal process continues
The 56-year-old’s legal team continues to fight the conviction. The defense filed an appeal as early as December 2025.
In a brief filed in March 2026, which was reported by the US magazine “People”, the lawyers described the verdict as a wrong decision and called for it to be overturned. Alternatively, the case should be referred back to a lower court for a new sentencing. They also demanded the immediate release of their client.
Arrested in September 2024
Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested by U.S. Homeland Security investigators in New York on September 16, 2024. The basis was an indictment by the federal prosecutor’s office in the Southern District of New York. Just one day later, the US star was brought before a federal court in Manhattan. The court subsequently rejected several requests for bail, so he remained in custody until his trial and later sentencing.
The prosecution accused the music entrepreneur of having operated a criminal network for years. The central allegations included racketeering conspiracy, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and transporting people across state lines to engage in prostitution.
Prosecutors argued that Combs used his business environment to organize and conceal alleged crimes. The rapper and producer denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty in court.
In July 2025, the jury acquitted Combs of the most serious charges. Neither the charge of conspiracy to commit organized crime nor that of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation resulted in a conviction. However, he was found guilty of two counts of transporting people for the purpose of engaging in prostitution under the so-called Mann Act. Based on this guilty verdict, the court imposed the prison sentence in October 2025.
