Sea farm works continue: judge in Kort Geding declares case unfounded

The Colruyt group wants to grow mussels in the sea farm and, in the long run, also oysters and seaweed. The city authorities, but also fishermen and sailors are opposing the sea farm, which would be located five kilometers from the coast. They went to court in summary proceedings.

“Obviously this is a disappointment. I have not been able to see the verdict yet. We have not received it yet. We will now have to consider what the next steps are. I stand by our position that this is a very unfortunate thing for We have nothing against a sea farm in itself, but at that location it is a death knell for our fishermen and for the sailors,” says mayor of Nieuwpoort Geert Vanden Broucke.

“We are satisfied with the verdict of the judge in Kort Geding. For us, this is confirmation that we can continue on our chosen path: step by step building an innovative project in the North Sea in collaboration with our partners on the coast. We will therefore soon move on to placing the screw anchors to which we will attach the first 50 mussel lines. When the installation of the lines actually starts, we will inform you about this transparently”, says the Colruyt group again.

Nieuwpoort itself has two other proceedings pending at the Council of State and says that the hatchet has not been buried.
