Scottish Premiership 01-03 available: Celtic & Rangers celebrate titles

New in database

The TM database has been enriched by further milestones: the 2001/02 and 02/03 seasons of the Scottish Premiership can be called up with all game reports. The 2002 title was won by Celtic Glasgow on 103 points, beating closest rivals Glasgow Rangers by 18 – it was the club’s 38th championship in club history. The following year, Rangers triumphed just ahead of Celtic. Both reached 97 points, but Rangers had a better goal difference.

St Johnstone FC were relegated in those seasons and Motherwell FC the following year. However, with Falkirk FC not obtaining a license for the coming season, Motherwell remained top notch. Center forward Henrik Larsson was the top scorer in both seasons, scoring 29 goals and then 28 for Celtic.

01/02 also left their mark on John Hartson, Shaun Maloney, ex-BVB professional Stefan Klos, Christian Nerlinger, who switched from Dortmund to Rangers in 2001 for 3 million euros but only played eight games due to a serious injury, and Claudio Reyna, father of Giovanni Reyna. Former Cologne and Cottbus player Kevin McKenna also played for him in the Premiership (among other well-known professionals from the 01/02 season).

In 2002/03, current Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta, former Energie Cottbus professional János Mátyus and former Argentinian international Rolando Zárate were all active in Scotland. Five former players from the Bundesliga, Klos, Dirk Lehmann, Mathias Jack, Daniel Sengewald and Nerlinger, were also under contract with Premiership clubs (along with other well-known professionals from the 02/03 season).
