Glasgow Rangers have unveiled a successor to recently sacked coach Michael Beale. Philippe Clement takes over the vacant position and receives a three and a half year contract with the Scots. The 49-year-old Belgian was without a club after leaving AS Monaco at the beginning of June. The Rangers are Clement’s second coaching position abroad. His enthronement, according to President John Bennett, “came at the end of a carefully planned and comprehensive enlistment process.”
The 43-year-old Englishman Beale was released after the 3-1 defeat in the Premiership in front of the home crowd against Aberdeen. The reason for this was the results this season, which were below the club’s expectations. Experienced Steven Davis (38) then took over as player-coach on an interim basis.

Clement took over from Niko Kovac in Monaco in January 2022 and has scored an average of 1.73 points in 73 competitive games since then. As sixth in the table, two points behind LOSC Lille, and without success in the cup competition, AS will have to watch in the European weeks of 2023/24. “I am honored to have been appointed as the new manager of Rangers Football Club and I would like to thank the board for giving me this opportunity,” said Clement. “I’m really excited about this opportunity to achieve success in four competitions over the remainder of the season and beyond with one of Europe’s most famous clubs.”
