New research by Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and the University College London, which was published on Wednesday, shows that people between the ages of 18 and 24 are the most unfortunate group in 46 countries worldwide. Scientists from the United States and the United Kingdom have established that the mental health of Gen Z has been declining considerably since 2014.

Previous research is being knocked down. Scientists previously found that happiness in middle age decreased the most. That usually happened around the age of 40, during the infamous midlife crisis.

The group of researchers have not been able to find a specific cause of the decreasing happiness at Gen Z, but see a lot of problems arising in the generation. For example, many people regularly skip at school and they often leave the labor market early due to psychological problems.

Anxiety and depression

The research shows that the problem among young women is greater than among men. There is probably a connection with a higher degree of fear and depression in women. 48 percent of Gen Z even run the risk of psychological problems, and those figures find scientists alarming.

“Since their childhood, young adults have spent much more time behind a screen than previous generations,” says lucky researcher Martijn Hendriks of the Erasmus University at NL Times. According to Hendriks, this means that young people compare themselves too much with others online. That in turn can cause poor self -image.

Finance

According to Hendriks, who was not involved in the investigation, part of the accident of Gen Z is due to the fact that they have not saved much money. This means that they have more difficulty to provide for their basic needs, such as food and shelter.

People with the age of 45 and 70 are happiest, the study also shows. According to scientists, their mental health is much better than that of Gen Z. However, the question is how the state of affairs will be in a number of years.
