The rumors have come true: Lea Schüller is leaving the FC Bayern Munich women’s team and moving to Manchester United.

Lea Schüller says “Hello”: The German international is leaving FC Bayern Munich’s women’s team and moving to Manchester United in the Women’s Super League 1 (WSL1), the highest English league, in January.

Schüller has played in Munich since 2020

Schüller came to the Bavarian capital from her youth club SGS Essen in the summer of 2020 and shaped an era there.

In five and a half years on the Isar, she celebrated winning the German championship four times (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025), triumphed once in the DFB Cup (2025) and won the Supercup twice (2024, 2025). In 181 games across all competitions, she scored 104 times and prepared 30 more goals.

Emotional farewell words from Schüller

The 28-year-old’s contract was last extended in November 2022 until next summer. An agreement on a working paper that would run beyond 2026 could not be reached.

In the last game before the winter break against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (3-0), Schüller said goodbye to the Bayern supporters in tears. In a statement from the club she also became emotional.

Schüller: Farewell “particularly difficult”

“Munich has really become my home for me. The team and the club have always been like a second family for me, no matter what season. Such close friendships have developed here that will last forever. That’s why it’s particularly difficult to now take the step and leave my home, my friends and my family,” said Schüller.

The newly crowned England legionnaire also addressed the FCB fans: “A big thank you goes out to our fans in particular. It’s anything but self-evident how strong the support is for us players – whether on campus, in the Allianz Arena or anywhere in Germany and Europe. My years at Bayern will always remain something very special for me and have had a huge impact on me. I will miss you incredibly and remember you fondly – and that will never change.”

Rech thanks Schüller: “He made a significant contribution to our successes”

Bianca Rech, Bayern’s director of women’s football, gave Schüller warm words: “Lea has helped to shape and shape our team’s most successful years to date. With her impressive goal rate and her commitment, she has made a significant contribution to our success over five and a half years. […] We thank her from the bottom of our hearts for everything she has done for FC Bayern and wish her only the best for the future.”
