After two moderate international matches against Poland and Lithuania, the criticism of national coach Ronald Koeman is increasing again. Not justified, think PSV and Orange icons Willy and René van de Kerkhof. They do expect that Koeman will make way after the upcoming World Cup and they think they know for whom. “I see it happening that Peter Bosz will be the new national coach,” says Willy.

According to Willy, PSV would like to keep Bosz. “But if he has become champions three times, he can leave,” he says. René also sees Erik ten Hag becoming a federal coach, but he does agree with his brother. “I think Bosz is the right person for the Dutch national team.” The brothers do think that Koeman deserves confidence up to and including the World Cup, they say in the Willy and René Podcast of Omroep Brabant. After the World Cup, Willy expects Koeman, because of his private situation, to stop.

Willy also has an idea who should be the successor to Bosz at PSV. “Why wouldn’t Mark van Bommel get the chance again with André Ooijer?” René would also have no problem with that: “Good trainer and a great kid. But now I had found FC Twente a nice club for him, too bad that that will not happen.”

For the top scorer of all time at Oranje, Memphis Depay, the brothers have a lot of praise, but also criticism. “I found him flop against Poland,” says René, who was in the stands together with a lot of other ex-internationals. “He occasionally walked across the field as if he was walking through the sand, so slow. But against Lithuania, he was much better. He just showed that he is the striker of Orange, ready.”

Less impression made the only PSV player who came into action against Lithuania, Jerdy Schouten. “He can charge that first goal of Lithuania,” says Willy Critically. “He should have intervened much earlier. Then you also see that he is not a real Balafpakker and that he is also short of speed.” René also understands that it is not easy to join the Orange if you are used to the Eredivisie. “Sem Steijn also said for nothing that the Baltempo three levels is higher with the Dutch national team.”

“WK with 48 countries is not about anything at all.”

Despite the recent lean performances, the Dutch team is close to qualifying for next year’s World Cup in North America, which will participate in 48 countries. René finds that number ‘nothing at all’. “32 countries is fine, but 48 countries are not about anything at all. Whether I am looking at Tanzania-Iraq? Well I didn’t think so!” In the podcast, the brothers, as they like to do, recall their own World Cups and also look forward to the coming weekend in which the Eredivisie will continue, including NEC-PSV.
