School in Blankenberge suspends second teacher: ‘may have gone too far online in private’

“We confirm a recent development in connection with the events that have affected our school,” says director Rudi Boydens. “It concerns possible cross-border online behavior towards minors, which seems to be situated in the private sphere. This is incompatible with an assignment at school. On this basis, the school board decided on May 31 to conduct a further investigation and to preventively suspend the staff member concerned as a first step of the internal disciplinary procedure.”

“We would like to reiterate that our number one priority is to support our students and staff during these challenging times. The school board continues to monitor this situation closely,” said Boydens.

Apprehended

In the meantime, the public prosecutor’s office confirms that a judicial investigation is underway into a second secondary school teacher in Blankenberge. The man was brought before the investigating judge today, who arrested him on suspicion of incitement to sexual abuse and grooming.

Second teacher in a short time

Recently, a teacher (27) in the same school was also suspended. He’s in jail after he turned himself in. De Bredenaar had relationships with four underage students, the youngest is fourteen.
