Parents and students took to the streets again on Saturday – for more staff, more school places. A comment from BZ editor Sabine Klier

Instead of staying at home in the icy drizzle, they moved from Kreuzberg to Alexanderplatz for their cause. I wonder if this mission is even noticed by politicians.

Teachers and parents have been demanding better conditions for years. What did it bring? Around 34,000 teachers work in Berlin. Nevertheless, there is a shortage of teachers.

This school year there are more students than ever before: 383,290. The lessons have become tougher in recent years. Many teachers cannot stand the strain for long. The result: overcrowded classes, lots of substitution hours.

The problem affects us all. A good education lays the foundation for good training opportunities. The shortage of skilled workers is no accident.
