Schlotterbeck comments on rumours

Nico Schlotterbeck is one of the big climbers at SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. The 22-year-old is absolutely set under Christian Streich and recently even made it into the squad for the national team. Schlotterbeck has even recently been associated with the top clubs FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund. The central defender has now commented on the speculation.

Before the Bundesliga duel between Freiburg and VfB Stuttgart, Schlotterbeck made it clear that he had by no means decided on his sporting future.

“I have to see what the next step is for me – and it’s anything but impossible that I’ll take it at SC,” said the defender of the Breisgau club in an interview with the “Stuttgart News“, when asked about the interest of the Bundesliga elite from Munich and Dortmund.

According to Schlotterbeck, it is even “very well possible that it will go nowhere”. Statements that are likely to be all too well received in the run-up to the southwest duel against VfB Stuttgart, who are threatened with relegation, in sixth place in the Bundesliga table.

Speculations about the 1.91 m man have increased in recent months because he only has a current contract with Freiburg until the summer of 2023. If the sports club still wants to make money with its defensive star, it would have to be sold this year.

Discussions with VfB Stuttgart

Meanwhile, Schlotterbeck has also confirmed that he was also in talks with Saturday’s opponent in the past summer 2021 transfer window.

“Yes, we had contact once,” he said when asked about VfB Stuttgart. However, the native of Waiblingen decided early on to stay in Breisgau.

“Because coach Christian Streich sought to talk to me early on and all those responsible at SC signaled to me that they were planning to have me as a regular after my year on loan at Union Berlin,” explained Schlotterbeck, who emphasized: “There was never a change in the summer to the debate. And looking back, that was the right step.”
