As of: January 11, 2024 2:56 p.m

The 22nd edition of the international show jumping tournament begins on Thursday in Neustadt (Dosse), Brandenburg. In addition to the usual high-class competitions, a stallion licensing will also be part of the event for the first time.

What is the CSI Neustadt-Dosse?

The 22nd CSI Neustadt/Dosse (Ostprignitz-Ruppin) will again be the first international equestrian event in Germany in 2024 and will also be the start of the Olympic year. From January 10th to 14th, some of the elite of equestrian sports and horse breeding will gather in the Graf von Lindenau Hall to compete against each other in various tests. Around 350 horses and riders from 16 different nations are expected in Brandenburg; However, almost 60 percent of the participants come from Germany.

What are the highlights?

The jumping competition with obstacles 1.45 meters high will take place on Friday (7 p.m.). This is about mistakes and time: Whoever completes a lap fastest with the lowest error rate wins.

The competition with the highest prize money of around 30,000 euros follows on Saturday with the “Prize of the DKB” (from 1:50 p.m. in the rbb|24 live stream). The competition follows the format in which all participants compete in a round and the best 25 percent reach the so-called “winning round”. There it’s all about mistakes and time, taking the points from the first round with you.

The “Grand Prix” in Neustadt (Dosse) takes place on Sunday (2:30 p.m.), although the value is slightly lower than the prize from the previous day.

Who are the favorites?

The biggest name in the tournament is certainly André Thieme, who is also part of the German Olympic squad. The 48-year-old show jumper won the European Championship title in 2021 and is considered a crowd favorite at the tournament in Neustadt (Dosse), where he competes year after year. His biggest competitor is likely to be defending champion Rene Dittmer. The show jumper from Stade is currently the best German in the World Cup rankings (8th). The 60-year-old veteran Holger Wulschner, who won the German Jumping Derby in 2000, will also take part.

“But it’s also exciting that, in addition to the experienced favorites, there are many young riders at the start,” says Marc Eschweiler, who will comment on the tournament for rbb|24 and the sports show. He names Hannes Ahlmann (22 years old): “This is someone for the future.” You also have to pay attention to Mylen Kruse (23), who secured the German U25 show jumping championship title last year.

What’s new?

The 22nd edition of the international equestrian tournament is taking place for the first time under one roof and at the same time as the “Showcase of the Best”, the stallion licensing and auction of the Brandenburg-Anhalt Horse Breeding Association.

Almost 70 stallions, including 27 licensing candidates from the ponies category, present themselves to the licensing committee and are tested on solid ground, free running and free jumping in order to be selected for breeding. There will also be an auction on Saturday afternoon where stallions for sale from the so-called Körlot will be auctioned off.

However, this combination of the two events also means significant additional logistical effort for the organizers. “The young licensing candidates, for example, have to be housed separately from the sport horses, so they need stables that are clearly separated from each other,” explains tournament director Herbert Ulonska.

How can I follow the tournament?

Tickets for the tournament are still available online. Seats cost between 22 and 30 euros depending on the category. Standing room tickets cost between four and 14 euros. The tickets are always valid for the entire day of the event. If you want a season ticket for all days, it starts at 55 euros. rbb|24 will also broadcast the show jumping on Saturday, January 13th from 1:50 p.m in the live stream.
