Schalke 04 put a good start to the 2nd league. Under Neu-coach Miron Muslic, on Friday evening (01.08.2025) in the season opening game, an exclamation mark against the promotion applicant Hertha BSC achieved.
In the 2-1 (2: 0) Moussa Sylla (16th) and Nikola Katic (23rd) scored the two goals for Schalke. Königsblau could have won the game even higher, Hertha was also very hard -working, but in the end weak. Just before the end, Sebastian Grønning (89th) shortened to 1: 2.
Remmert raves: “Still goosebumps”
“It was an incredible mood and it was a great game”said Schalkes Peter then Remmert at Sky. “I still have goose bumps.” Fabian Reese, ex-Schalker and now at Hertha, annoyed: “We weren’t there in the first semi -finished finish, made it too easy for the Schalkern to go to the goals.”
From the kick -off, the game at operating temperature was, especially the royal blue started as if unleashed. In the 13th minute, Hertha striker Dawid Kownacki had to clarify on his own goal line at a Sylla head, after a quarter of an hour the storm and urge the hosts were rewarded: remeding the Hertha penal room at a high speed, Márton Dárdai left it easily before both stumbled. The Schalke fans loudly challenged the penalty, Dárdai waved helplessly towards referee Richard Hempel, who did not want to whistle at all. Remmert, on the other hand, stayed wide awake, continued in lying down and gave the decisive pass on Sylla, who was insisted on.
More opportunities for Sylla and Antwi-Adjei
As a result, the Berliners also wanted to continue playing forward, but except for a header from Deyovaisio Zeefuik (20th) hardly ever came into compelling final positions. Sylla (19th) and Christopher Antwi-Adjei with a free kick (23rd) could have already expanded the Schalke lead, but Tjark Ernst was on the post twice.
Seconds after his awarded chance, Antwi-Adjei was instrumental in the fact that Ernst had to grab behind for the second time. Nikola Katic promoted his corner ball into the far corner, Hertha defender Toni Leistner only watched.
Remmert awards the Preliminary decision
Before the break, Schalke could have made everything clear, but the outstanding Remmert was a little too overzealous: The sharp cross from Adrian Gantenbein steered Ernst a little awkward in front of the 20-year-old’s feet, who had switched from the youth department of VfL Osnabrück to the Schalke reserve last year. Remmert wanted to chase the ball under the crossbar, but shot over it. Zeefuik had also slightly deflected the ball, but there was no corner kick.
In the second round, Schalke largely switched to control mode, but needed luck in the 57th minute and a strong goalkeeper: Maurice Krattenmacher had played the ball perfectly into the depths, but Reese failed on the shiny reacting Loris Karius. Then the flag of the line judge went up, but the slow motion pictures showed more “same height” – a goal would probably have existed.
Lots of possession of the ball, but hardly any degrees
However, this scene did not serve the team of Stefan Leitl as a courtyard or guide. After that, they had a significantly more possession of the ball and were at a value of almost 60 percent at the final whistle. But this was almost no degrees from this pseudo-superiority: 7:15 goal shots were in the end the mashed balance from Berlin’s perspective.
The fifth of these seven shots were still landing in the Schalke network. Joker Marten Winkler had started on the left and had tired in the middle. Joker Grønning artistically kept his foot in and still managed the connection goal. Then it got hectic again, Katic got yellow-red for a deliberate handball in the 98th minute.
