FC Schalke 04 have to do without winter newcomer Dong-gyeong Lee in the fight for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The 24-year-old offensive player has sustained a metatarsal fracture. The Royal Blues announced this on Saturday shortly before the away game against Karlsruher SC kicked off. Lee will be out for “several weeks”.

The club initially did not give any details as to when the South Korean was injured. Schalke 04 only loaned Lee out in January with an option to buy from the South Korean first division club Ulsan Hyundai. The left foot has only played for 30 minutes in three games so far – in the 2-1 draw against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
