S04 defeat against Elversberg
Schalke coach Karel Geraerts clearly criticized himself and his players after the 1:2 in the 2nd Bundesliga against newly promoted SV Elversberg. “We weren’t ready to compete with them. The defeat means Schalke remains in the bottom of the table – the 13 points also represent the sixth worst start to the season after 13 match days for a relegated Bundesliga team in history.
“We weren’t there, we weren’t present,” said the coach. “I will look in the mirror at what I did wrong, because in the end it is my responsibility to get the players ready.” With a squad value of almost 33 million euros, the Gelsenkirchen team is the third most valuable team in the German lower house, despite this is ranked 15th – at no other club is the discrepancy between market value and league ranking so large.
