Schalke 04: Gladbach wants Tom Krauss – Among the U21 perennial favorites in the Bundesliga

Goes back to Leipzig on descent

At Borussia Mönchengladbach there is a change in personnel in the coming summer: the free transfers of Marcus Thuram (25), Ramy Bensebaini (28) and Lars Stindl (34) have been decided. It is also considered likely that the third year without Europe will mean that other top performers such as Manu Koné (21) cannot be retained. According to “Sport Bild”, the “foals” have found a candidate at Schalke 04 as a possible replacement for the Frenchman.

Tom Krauss is set for the “Royal Blues” this season and is one of the few market value winners in the squad. The 21-year-old midfielder is on loan from RB Leipzig and will be committed to around €3 million if he stays up in the league. However, should this not succeed – the gap to the relegation place is currently one point – the U21 international will return to the Saxons for the time being, who in all likelihood will not plan with him.

Gladbach could use this circumstance to commit Krauss firmly. Sports director Roland Virkus would then negotiate the transfer with his former boss Max Eberl. With new signing Nicolas Seiwald (22), Xaver Schlager (25), Amadou Haidara (25) and Kevin Kampl (32), RB currently has four central midfielders in the squad, Konrad Laimer (25) will most likely join the club after the end of his contract after leaving for Bayern.

Gladbach is in the running for Krauss along with Mainz 05 and English clubs. At Schalke’s last home game against Hertha BSC (5-2), according to the report, several Borussia scouts sat in the stands to watch Krauss more closely. It was in this game of all places that the right footer only came off the bench for the first time of the season, having previously started all 27 games. Due to a yellow card suspension, Krauss was also unable to play against SC Freiburg (0:4) last weekend, but he is still one of the U21 perennial favorites in the Bundesliga. Only Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham (2,423 minutes) and Koné (2,379) have more minutes in the league than Schalke (2,222).
