“Found a second home”

After a mixed first year at Schalke 04 in the 2nd Bundesliga, Reinhold Ranftl left the “Royal Blues” last summer after promotion to Austria Vienna on loan. A year later, the Revierklub finds itself in the lower house again, but there is no new attempt for the Austrian. The 31-year-old is moving to the “Violetten”, where he signed a contract until 2026. It was not mentioned whether the agreed purchase option was drawn or a new transfer fee was negotiated.

“We have been in contact with Reini and his advisors throughout the loan. As a result, it quickly became apparent that staying at FK Austria Wien was the best option for all parties,” says Schalke sporting director André Hechelmann.

In Vienna, Ranftl, who came to Germany from LASK in 2021 for 650,000 euros, played 44 games in the past season, in which he scored four goals as a right winger and played five more. At Schalke it was an assist in 16 appearances in 2021/22. “I am extremely happy that the transfer worked out. The last year was incredibly beautiful for me personally and I found a second home in Vienna. I still have a lot planned for Austria and I’m looking forward to starting training with the team and the coaching staff,” said the right-footed player.
