The redevelopment backlog at the Berlin police has unpleasant consequences. A comment from BZ editor Axel Lier.

The police are constantly recruiting new recruits, and not just on social networks. The authority wants to be a good employer and shines.

But the truth is that, according to the union, it is struggling with a massive renovation backlog of two billion euros.

This has an impact on the condition of the sections – and the offspring. What young person wants to stand under a dirty, calcified shower after a hard shift?

It is all the more important that politicians don’t just worry about bare numbers, but also get their own picture of things on the ground. The interior senator did that – and drew public attention to the problem.

Now everyone has to pull together to remedy the situation where showers are even blocked. And fast.
