The trial that took place last year is followed in a two-part documentary. Rubiales vs Hermoso: A scandalous kiss can already be found on HBO Max, and now it can be seen on TLC.
First, the events that received international attention are reviewed as told by the former boss of the Spanish Football Association, Luis Rubiales, and his relatives. After that, it’s the turn of soccer player Jennifer “Jenni” Hermoso’s side. The star player is voiced only in archive material. Unlike Rubiales, he did not give an interview for the documentary.
It all started in August 2023, when Spain won the Women’s World Cup. During the medal ceremony, Rubiales kissed Hermoso on the mouth. Rubiales claims to have received permission from Hermoso, which Hermoso has systematically denied.
The events eventually progressed to the point where Rubiales ended up in court accused of sexual violence. He faced a maximum of two and a half years in prison.

It is already known that Rubiales did not end up behind bars, but he was found guilty of sexual violence. Rubiales received a fine of 10,800 euros and a one-year restraining order.
In the documentary, the crime title is opened by, among others, a BBC reporter Guy Hedgecoe.
– The law being invoked to prosecute Luis Rubiales is a “yes means yes” law. Its goal is to ensure consent in sexual relations.
The documentary says that Rubiales will appeal the sentence – as he did. However, the first appeal was rejected. Rubiales is said to continue to appeal to the Supreme Court.
The prosecutor also complained about the sentence, which he considered too lenient, and the fact that the sentence did not come from coercion.
