Scandal with gynecologist: already several people have come forward
They question the origin of their donor child.
AZ Delta wants to fully support and guide them. dr. Luc Harlet, medical director AZ Delta: “Mothers who have undergone treatment by the relevant gynecologist in the mid-1980s can of course receive a copy of their patient file. They are entitled to this. Files are kept for at least 30 years until the last patient contact. Then we will search together and propose an individual follow-up trajectory.”
Stefan, the donor child who announced the news, tracked down 4 donor children himself, but there are probably more. “I don’t think it will be very many. I speak for our organization. But I am sure that there will be more cases. We understand that the news has a major impact on many people.”
The retired gynecologist neither confirms nor denies the facts. His DNA could provide the ultimate proof. “Strictly speaking, you must have that for one hundred percent formal proof. We cannot demand that. Maybe others can. But I’ll leave that to the judicial inquiry.”
“Reprehensible and Reprehensible”
The doctor involved has never worked for AZ Delta. Torhout hospital has only been part of the hospital group since 2018. Nevertheless, AZ Delta, together with the non-profit organization Donorkinderen, wants a complete clarification of the matter. “In any case, it is not ethically correct. It is reprehensible that a doctor should have used his own sperm for a donor insemination without informing the intended parents. That is reprehensible and not correct.
