Scandal! The reigning world champion was caught doping

Winner of the 3,000-meter steeplechase world championship last summer Norah Jeruto27, has been charged with doping.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), which supervises the ethics of athletics, announced on Friday that it had temporarily banned Jeruto from competition. According to an update published by AIU on Twitter, the runner has been caught using a prohibited substance or method.

There is no more detailed information about the prohibited activity.

Jeruto celebrated the 3,000-meter steeplechase world championship in Eugene in the summer with a new competition record of 8:53.02.

The runner was born in Kenya, but represents Kazakhstan. It was the first time that a Kazakh athlete won World Championship gold.

Earlier in his career, Jeruto has won the African championship and the final competition of the Diamond League.
