At the beginning of the year, second division club SC Paderborn announced the transfer of Waldhof Mannheim’s center forward Kennedy Okpala. The third division team was surprised and said the club would not tolerate the player’s recent dismissal. On Saturday, both clubs announced that they had found an “amicable solution”. The 21-year-old with Nigerian roots is joining East Westphalia with immediate effect.

“The clubs agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer,” said Waldhof in a short statement about the move. At the same time, Paderborn confirmed that Okpala had received the right to play in the 2nd league and could play in the away game in Kiel next week.

Okpala contributed ten scorers in 18 league games for Mannheim this season. “I very much welcome the fact that we have found an amicable solution. This is in the interests of Kennedy, of us and also of Waldhof Mannheim. We are very pleased that Kennedy can now play for us in the 2nd Bundesliga as planned,” said Paderborn’s sports director Sebastian Lange.
