SC Magdeburg crowns outstanding group stage , Handball | EHF European League – MDR – Regional

Game at eye level in half one

Against Nexe, the undisputed Bundesliga leader had to stretch in the first half. The hosts made life difficult for SCM from the first minute and were able to rely primarily on goalkeeper Mihailo Radovanovic. Tim Hornke only broke the spell in the fifth minute and gave the guests the lead. But even after that Magdeburg had to struggle again and again with a lack of consistency in attack, which Nexe exploited and meanwhile pulled away to 8:5.

“We have a team against us that is hurting us. Let’s accept it, that makes us better,” Wiegert demanded shortly afterwards and was not disappointed. The SCM picked up the pace and took the lead again after 24 minutes thanks to Michael Damgaard’s 9:8. Shortly before the break, Nexe again took advantage of two unnecessary ball losses by the guests in the forward movement and thus ensured the 11:11 half-time score.

SCM attracts – Musche and Damgaard outstanding

The Croatians carried the sense of achievement into the second half and stayed just ahead thanks to goals from Dorian Markusic and Fahrudin Melic. A double pack from Matthias Musche, who had a perfect evening and scored with each of his eight shots, brought the turning point after almost 40 minutes from the SCM’s point of view. The guests increased the pace and now consistently used their chances. Nexe, on the other hand, had its problems on the offensive and was also weakened by two-minute penalties. Magdeburg showed their class and kept the hosts at bay thanks to goals from Damgaard, who became the top scorer with ten goals.
