SC Magdeburg completes round of 16 in the DHB Cup

The German handball champion SC Magdeburg is the last team to reach the round of 16 of the DHB Cup.

Last year’s finalists won 35:30 (20:19) at second division club Eulen Ludwigshafen and will host Bundesliga rivals Bergischer HC in the next round.

Club world champions Magdeburg had control of the game from the start and led early on by five goals. The outsider fought back again and again, but in the end coach Bennet Wiegert’s team clearly won. The top scorer for Magdeburg was Kay Smits with nine goals.

The cup round of 16 will be played on December 21st and 22nd. In addition to SCM’s game against Bergischer HC, SG Flensburg-Handewitt meets HSV Hamburg, while defending champion THW Kiel travels to second division team SG BBM Bietigheim.
