The series has been torn, the Königsklassen-Platz lost for the time being: SC Freiburg has left points for the first time after successful weeks in the Bundesliga. After four victories in a row, the team of coach Julian Schuster only came to a 0-0 at FC Augsburg at the FC Augsburg, which was also strong and missed the leap to fourth place.
Nevertheless, as the fifth in the table, the Freiburger are still fully in the race for the Champions League places. “There were always opportunities to be dangerous, we didn’t do that often enough,” said Schuster at “DAZN”: “In the end it is probably exactly what everyone expected.”
The FCA meanwhile remained unbeaten in the eighth game in a row and, given the 15 points ahead, has nothing to do with relegation – on the contrary: the gap to international places is six points.
In view of the respective shape strength, both Schuster and FCA trainer Jess Thorup did not make changes in their starting eleven. Above all, the defensive had convinced with strong performances for both teams in the past few weeks, accordingly with far -low parts of the duel.
Both teams tried to build an orderly game building at the beginning, the respective pressing behavior was meanwhile kept within limits. Phillip Tietz (12th) gave the first reasonable conclusion for Augsburg by direct free kick, all further efforts mostly suffocated the defensive series in the germ.
The spectators were likely to have been surprised when it suddenly clapped. After a beautifully presented attack by the FCA over the left outer lane, Frank Onyeka (24th) came from the back room, but SC goalkeeper Noah Atubolu steered the ball with a strong reflex to the lower edge of the latte.
Augsburg long active, Freiburg in round two with opportunities
It was a wake -up call for Augsburg. The FCA now became more active, but was able to convert its advantages in game control into dangerous situations too rarely. Only shortly before the break, Tietz (45.+2) left the next good option unused, when the striker was weak, Atubolu was on the spot again.
The second half also only offered a few highlights-which is why you could confidently concentrate on statistical things: with 399 Bundesliga minutes without a goal, FCA goalkeeper Finn Dahmen set up a new club record and further expanded this best.
The 26-year-old was on the spot at the best of the best Freiburg chance by the substitute Niklas (63.). The game now picked up, both teams ventured more aggressively to risk – a goal but no longer.
