SBS 6 sees viewing figures drop by 73 percent without VI: ‘This costs millions’

SBS 6 sees its ratings completely collapse without Today Inside. On the first night without VI, the channel loses no less than 73 percent of its viewers at half past nine. “This costs millions.”

Johan Derksen has stopped Today Inside because of a mega riot about his controversial candle statements. He felt no support from the Talpa management and John de Mol deliberately did not try to keep Johan on board. As a result, VI is now off the air and SBS 6 has a huge programming problem.

SBS drops, Jinek rises

Where Today Inside on Thursday still attracted 1.3 million viewers (25% market share), its replacement Het Roer Om managed to charm only 352 thousand viewers (8%). This means that SBS 6 sees no less than 73 percent of viewers drop out. Compared to last Friday, this is a decrease of 48 percent.

At the same time, Eva Jinek rubs her hands. The presenter, who suggested an advertiser boycott of VI earlier this week, sees her viewing figures rise significantly. Yesterday she attracted no less than 882 thousand viewers (22%). That is 155 percent more than the day before yesterday and 32 percent more than last Friday.

Mega problem

It is obvious that SBS 6 has a mega problem. That channel will repeat the Meilandjes every evening from Monday in the place of VI and of course the Netherlands will not sit on the couch en masse for that. “It was the most watched talk show in the Netherlands. I think they are all a bit disappointed with it”, Wilfred Genee responds to BNR.

Telegraaf journalist Jordi Versteegden at Privé TV: “They are going to miss at least 700,000 viewers in one evening. It literally costs a lot of money. They are going to miss out on millions in advertising revenue. Even with the discontinuation of HLF8 soon, there will be a very large gap in the programming of SBS 6.”

Millions

Tina Nijkamp, former channel boss of SBS 6, thinks the same about this. She says in Op1: “This has major financial consequences anyway, because this is of course a very successful program. I think it’s one of the most successful programs ever at half past nine five days a week.”

She continues: “That means tons of advertising money is lost every week and that’s millions on an annual basis. It is very difficult to put down an equally good scoring program there.”

And Patrick Lodiers at Jinek: “It is a problem for the Talpa channel. They have a problem around HLF8 and now also with this program, a cork that they float on.”

Bed and Breakfast at #1

Bed and Breakfast was the big winner in prime time with 1.3 million viewers (23%) on NPO 1. The most watched alternatives were Twee voor Twelf with 1.2 million viewers (21 percent) on NPO 2, De Verraders with 976 thousand viewers (19%) on RTL 4 and De Alleskunner VIPS with 657 thousand viewers (12%) on SBS 6.

The winners at half past nine were NPO 1’s Tweede Hand with 1.3 million viewers (27%), RTL 4’s Jinek with 882 thousand viewers (22%) and NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur with 576 thousand viewers (12%). With VI, SBS 6 was often the number two in this time slot, but now the channel does not even reach the top 25 viewing figure.

Viewing figures

Programs that did not make the top 15 include Shownieuws (575 thousand), Hart van Nederland (560 thousand), Khalid & Sophie (526 thousand), Tijd voor MAX (449 thousand) and HLF8 (351 thousand).
