The Dutch defender is the pillar of the Emilians and also found the goal in the match against Sampdoria
Cas Odenthal is like Apollo: tall, handsome, strong, aristocratic, with a vocation for command and responsibility. He leads Sassuolo’s defense but until he was 10 he was a striker, one of those hungry ones who live for goals on Sundays. Last weekend he returned to scoring in Serie B after more than a year: a tap-in from a corner after a spurt from Thorstvedt in the 5-1 with which Grosso’s team got rid of Sampdoria. He is a son of art, intellectual and is inspired by Sergio Ramos and Maldini. Sassuolo has its gentle giant.

Sport has always been the order of the day at Odenthal. Family matter. His grandfather Joop was first a baseball player and then a professional footballer who made 13 appearances for the Dutch national team. Cas chose the path of the ball at his feet, not without having first tried his hand at tennis, even if at an amateur level. Born in Leersum, less than an hour from Amsterdam, in 2000, Odenthal began playing at the age of 4, growing up in Utrecht’s youth system. He thought he would become a goal machine, but instead he found himself defending his own penalty area. The boom arrives in 2018 with Nijmegen, where he starts from the Under 19s up to the first team: 72 total appearances, sealed by a historic promotion to the Eredivise in the 2020-21 season.
Como and Sassuolo

In the summer of 2022 the leap to Italy to Como. Within two years Odenthal would become a pillar of the Como defense with 61 appearances, 2 goals and 1 assist, contributing to the historic promotion to Serie A last year. Physically strong, skilled at anticipating and playing in the air, last summer he decided to remain in the ranks by signing for Sassuolo, launching himself into a new challenge. Cas has always been a simple boy: he loves Italian food and culture like most foreigners who arrive in the Bel Paese, he reads books on football statistics in his free time, among his idols is Maldini, as well as Sergio Ramos, and in Moldovan dressing room renamed it “Cash”. So far he has collected 17 tokens in the neroverde (14 as a starter), follows the advice of Berardi and Obiang, and has already experienced one promotion in Serie A. Against Sampdoria he became the fourteenth player to score this season for Sassuolo, between the championship and the Italian Cup. Grosso has built a goal cooperative and he just can’t do without the gentle Dutch giant.
