– There was such enormous destruction in his head that no one believed Valtteri could breathe or anything else. We were at power. Almost everything was in the past, Sanna recalls in the documentary series about everyday life in Finnish healthcare.

– It was said that if Valtteri survives, he will do nothing but look ahead and not communicate in any way. But hey, he’s still breathing, Sanna says on TV.

The children’s home hospital in Jorvi is responsible for Valtteri’s palliative care. From there, we visit Valtteri every week. This time the situation is acute, as Valtteri is in severe pain. He has had an infection and a fever. Severe intestinal symptoms remain. Valtteri is convulsing and can’t eat anymore.
– Valtteri has basically been racing with death. They had to put in so many sedatives and morphine that they said they couldn’t do it anymore, now he’s leaving. There have been a lot of near misses. He has had to tell the other children that he has to go say goodbye, that now he is leaving, sleeping away, Sanna describes the harrowing situation on TV.
– It’s the worst of all for other children… I can’t, Sanna starts crying in the middle of filming.
– He’s still breathing. Even today, doctors probably don’t believe how it’s possible, Sanna refers to Valtteri in the TV series. Over
The mother holds her child in her arms all the time.
– I always say that Valtteri has permission to leave when he can’t take it anymore. That you don’t have to suffer from pain. Then you have to go, Sanna says.
– I hope that Valtteri leaves before me. That’s the only wish I have. When I’m gone, what will happen to Valtteri?
