In his speech at the general meeting on Sunday, Herbert Hainer advocated for Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies to stay at FC Bayern. The fact that he left out some players with unclear futures from his list left the club president in need of explanation. Leroy Sané in particular must have been surprised.
Once a year, FC Bayern’s general meeting is the place for great gestures and words. Bayern President Herbert Hainer probably thought that too when he stepped up to the microphone in the Rudi Sedlmayer Hall at midday.
The head of the club used his remarks to show Musiala, Kimmich and Davies the path to legendary status in Munich. Intensive contract discussions are currently underway with the trio.
“We are a club of guardrail setters. That was already the case with Franz Beckenbauer, Uli Hoeneß, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, with Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Müller and Neuer. And Jamal, Jo and Phonzy should also join in here and set guardrails for them the next generation – on and off the pitch,” explained Hainer.
Will Leroy Sané leave FC Bayern for a free transfer?
He did not mention Leroy Sané’s personality in this context, although the national player is only tied to the record champions until the end of the season. So did Hainer already indicate in his speech that there is no future for Sané beyond the summer?
After the general meeting, the president tried to clarify things, but this in turn offered new grounds for attack.
“We have several players whose contracts expire in 2025,” said the Bayern boss when asked by “Sky”. “I don’t want to talk about every single player today. I spoke to these three because I believe that they can become, or already are, defining faces of FC Bayern.”
It remained unclear once again whether Hainer would also trust Sané to take the step to become a club icon. According to Sky, FC Bayern is currently in tricky negotiations with the winger.
Apparently, sports director Max Eberl wants to significantly reduce the 28-year-old’s fixed salary. Instead, Sané should get a performance-based contract. A decision should be made by March at the latest. If no agreement is reached, Sané would leave FC Bayern for free after the season.
