The San Francisco 49ers have agreed on a trade with the Minnesota Vikings that sends a running back to the far north.

Jordan Mason will play for Minnesota Vikings in the future. The running back is the heart of the trades, in which the Niners receive a six -round pick in Draft 2026. In addition, both teams exchange picks in Draft 2025. The Niners receive the 160th pick of the Vikings and those received the 187th Pick of the 49ers.

Mason had recently signed an RFA tender of the 49ers to ultimately enable this trade. He then received a new two -year contract from the Vikings, which, according to “ESPN”, guarantees seven million dollars. He can apparently earn twelve million dollars during this time.

Mason was an Undrafted Free Agent in 2022 and largely flew under the radar in his first two seasons in the Bay Area, although he had brought it to four touchdowns and 464 rushing yards in the time room. In 2024, however, Mason then played in the foreground when the starter Christian McCafrey had been for a longer period of injury. Mason played in twelve games, started six of them and brought it to 789 yards and three touchdowns.

Mason becomes backup from Jones

In the Vikings, Mason will now act as a backup behind Aaron Jones, who has extended his contract in Minnesota by two years and a maximum of $ 20 million after the good first season.

Mason and Jones will now find a significantly changed offensive line in Minnesota. With Center Ryan Kelly and Right Guard Will Fries, two top performers came from the Indianapolis Colts to significantly improve the blocking. However, it is still open who will actually play quarterback for the Vikings.

Last year’s starter Sam Darnold is now under contract with the Seattle Seahawks and apparently in Minnesota you are not yet sure whether last year’s rookie JJ McCarthy is ready to take over the helm. Therefore, the name Aaron Rodgers is circulating in the north these days. It is even assumed that the Vikings views the best option. But the group around Head Coach Kevin O’Connell has apparently not yet made a decision in this personnel.
