The skills gained during his military service came in handy for Finnish actor Samuli Vauramo in fire-ravaged Los Angeles.

Actor Samuli Vauramo and his wife Brittney Jones had to evacuate their home on Wednesday due to extensive wildfires.
Vauramo tells on Saturday’s broadcast of the HitMix radio channel, in which situation he had to use the skills he learned in the army.
– When we got out of the house and were on our way out of the area, my wife lost her sense of direction in a completely familiar neighborhood, says host Vauramo A fairy tale for Kotose.
– He suddenly didn’t know which direction he was going. In the meantime, I’m looking for an address on the phone, which I put in the navigator.
Vauramo’s wife started to worry more. At the same time, Vauramo remembered a trick learned in the army.
– I remembered that plans and decisions must be repeated clearly out loud, so that everyone knows what is happening, Vauramo says.
Vauramo started repeating out loud what he was doing.
– Calm jazz was playing in the background, the navigator was giving driving directions quite loudly and I was repeating the address I was looking for on the phone. It was surprisingly useful and finally the situation calmed down. In the background, only jazz was playing in the background and we drove peacefully to friends, Vauramo says.
Vauramo and his wife are now safe in San Diego.
“There was a thick smell of smoke everywhere”
Vauramo says in the broadcast that he and his spouse have settled down to live in Los Angeles.
– In many ways, it is a much more unpredictable place to live than, for example, Finland, Vauramo says.
Vauramo and his wife have prepared for earthquakes, for example. But when the sudden evacuation order came, the situation was chaotic.
– When the situation started, my mind went wild. We came out of the building and the sky was blazing. There was a smell of thick smoke everywhere and people were running around in their pajamas, Vauramo recalls.
– Quite a few seemed like they hadn’t followed the situation at all. We had already followed the events earlier in the day.
Vauramo says that he had an upbeat mood for a few days. Now the fatigue has started to hit, when the situation has calmed down.
