From Thursday, August 31st, Aldi will be offering the Samsung Galaxy A04s at a reasonable price. The smartphone was presented in August 2022 and is now available from the discounter for 119 euros. But is it worth buying or are there better alternatives?
Aldi sells cheap smartphones from well-known manufacturers from time to time. The Galaxy A04s from Samsung is a classic entry-level smartphone with slimmed down but sufficient features. Aldi offers the mobile phone in both its northern and southern branches. In our bargain check, we will tell you whether it is worth buying there.
Samsung Galaxy A04s with Aldi Talk in a package
The Samsung Galaxy A04s only came onto the market in August 2022 for a recommended retail price of 169 euros and has since fallen in price. As part of the offer at Aldi Nord and Süd, the device is now significantly cheaper. The discounter’s offer includes the Aldi Talk starter package. This normally costs EUR 12.99 and includes a starting credit of EUR 10. However, any other tariff can also be used with the smartphone.

Aldi Talk is a prepaid provider that implements its service in the O2 network. The starter package costs 12.99 euros and comes with a credit of 10 euros. It allows various options to be booked on the SIM card. There is a choice of pure internet flat rates, but also complete offers consisting of all-network and SMS flat rates from EUR 8.99 per 28 days. Without a booked option, connections to other Aldi-Talk customers cost 3 cents per minute and SMS and 11 cents to all other networks. Since July 2023, Aldi Talk has also allowed the use of O2’s 5G network.

The Samsung Galaxy A04s is suitable for all those users who do not have such high demands on a smartphone. Although it has a large 6.5-inch display, Samsung uses the simpler LCD technology instead of an OLED screen and only has an HD resolution. The display is therefore not quite as bright and rich in contrast.
After all, the Samsung Galaxy A04s comes with Android 12. Samsung also rolled out an update to Android 13 and the One UI 5.0 user interface at the end of 2022. Thus, users have a very up-to-date operating system at their disposal. Another highlight is the battery, which offers at least 5000 mAh capacity and thus ensures a long runtime.
Samsung uses a model with three sensors for the camera. The 50-megapixel wide-angle lens is supported by a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 2-megapixel macro lens. The camera is not really competitive due to the low-resolution additional sensors. They only offer additional image information for the main sensor, whose photo quality benefits from it. It should also be mentioned that the Galaxy A04s does not have a telephoto lens and is therefore less suitable for more distant subjects. The front camera takes pictures with up to 5 megapixels.
As far as performance is concerned, the Galaxy A04s has the standard fare of the entry-level class. An octa-core processor with 2 GHz drives the smartphone along with 3 GB of RAM. The eight cores are Cortex-A55 cores, which are more energy-efficient than trimmed for performance. While simple Android games, the occasional YouTube video, and browsing and messaging aren’t a problem. However, more demanding users should choose a different model. The memory is also clear at 32 GB. If desired, it can also be expanded using a micro SD card.
The connection options are positive. On the one hand, the Samsung Galaxy A04s supports WLAN ac, which is not a matter of course in this price range, and on the other hand, there is Bluetooth version 5. Users do not have to do without a fingerprint sensor either, which is positioned on the side in this case.

Is it worth buying the Samsung Galaxy A04s from Aldi?
In principle, the Galaxy A04s is a solid smartphone at this low price. Performance is good for the price range; there is an up-to-date Android system and a long-lasting battery. The performance is also okay, but the memory configuration is a bit meager overall. There are also limitations with the not quite as radiant display and the camera, which promises a lot on the sheet, but in reality only allows the occasional snapshot at most.
If you can put up with that, you can reach for the Samsung Galaxy A04s with peace of mind. At 119 euros, Aldi is currently making the best offer, even if the device is already available from other retailers from 125 euros and the savings are therefore clear. However, buyers get a little extra with the starter package from Aldi Talk worth 12.99 euros. Overall, smartphones in this price segment offer quite similar features.
