After four minutes of play Luca Villa, a Salernitana winger, was left unconscious on the ground after a violent clash of heads with Enrico Piovanello, a Crotone striker. The match was immediately stopped. Teammates, opponents and the referee called for help while the medical staff entered the field with stretchers and defibrillator.

After a few minutes, Villa regained consciousness, amidst applause from the audience. He was replaced by Coppolaro and transported by ambulance to the Ruggi d’Aragona hospital for checks. According to initial reconstructions, the player suffered a head injury and stitches to his lip. He boarded the ambulance alertly and will remain under observation, but could be discharged in the next few hours. Piovanello, treated with a turban on his head, was able to continue the race. Before the match, Villa had been awarded by the fans as the best Granata player of the month of October.
