The irregular conditions decisive in the stage on the lake, with the decision to have three people on board, the Germans at the first absolute success in the circuit. Australian and Swiss beaten. Evil Red Bull Italy, only eleventh

Who knows Lake Geneva – together with Garda, the mirror of internal water with the greatest sailing tradition in Europe – imagined that the Sail GP stage would be different from the others. Instead, it was sensationally overturned consolidated values, it being understood that in the general classification the best remained those set by the last ranking. It happened that the light wind – characteristic of the lemano – favored the teams prevailing lake and put in difficulty almost all the Anglo -Saxons. The technical direction – in the light of the irregular conditions and the continuous jumps of wind – forced the teams to compete, in some tests, with only three people on board instead of the usual six. The very fast F50 were practically unable to get up on the foils and therefore removed between 250 and 300 kg of “human ballast” made sense. Too bad for the show, considering that all the tickets to follow the Sail GP had been exhausted in a few days.

unpredictable

It was said of the occasion exploited very well by the teams with sailors accustomed to the lakes. The ranking after the five races of fleet saw the hosts of Switzerland in the lead, driven by a large cheering with a red andchic flags and Campanacci with an advantage on Germany by Deutsche Bank’s Germans and the Australians of Bonds Flying Roos. Outside the final, therefore, both the leader of the Emirates GBR circuit, Quarto, and the Spaniards of Los Gallos, Quinti. That it was an unpredictable stage, the eighth position of the New Zealanders of Black Folis of the Ace Peter Burling tries it, really appeared in difficulty on the waters of the Leman. The final act significantly disappointed the home audience: the Germans with Skipper the Berlinse Erik Kosegarten-Heil (49er specialist, with a bronze won at the Rio 2016 Olympics) put the Australians and Switzerland behind the much more talented Sébastien Schneiter, Geneva Doc, who defended the Swiss colors already in three editions of the games and in the games 2023, at the 49er World Cup, he finished second. For the German sail, it is the first victory ever in the circuit.

Red Bull Italy

First victory that continues to miss our sailors: Red Bull Italy did not keep the good pace of the previous stage and ended in 11th place, only the Brazilians have done worse. Tenth in all the tests on Saturday, the team rose to the podium in the fourth regatta where it was passed only from the German boat and finished the stage with an eighth place. Too little, ultimately, as the skipper Ruggero Tita explains. “After Saturday, on a technical level there were many things to understand and learn. On Sunday we drew better. In the first test we had an excellent start: we wanted the lower part of the line and we managed to take it. We took ‘taken’ before the others and we closed seconds” said the Trentino skipper who still has three stages – the first one played on 4-5 October in Cadiz – to take away at least the satisfaction of the victory in a single regatta and try to recover two positions in the general classification where it is nailed in tenth square. In front of the poker that will battle up to Dubai is confirmed. Bonds Flying Roos with Tom Singsby in directing has climbed by a single Punto Emirates GBR by Dylan Fletcher and has three points ahead of Black Foils and six on Los Gallos by Diego Botin who hopes to make sparks in two weeks in the waters of the house.
