Sail Den Helder is one of the largest maritime events in the country. At the last edition in 2023, around 275,000 visitors came to the naval city. The municipality of Den Helder has indicated that it would like to see the next Sail held in 2029. With a big but: if that doesn’t work, it can only be organized after 2035.
“Three options have been explored for the next edition: a new edition in 2029,
2032 or no new edition,” according to the municipality. A major event requires years of preparation, the municipality indicates.
If 2029 is not possible, cancellation is also an option
She continues: “In addition, major area developments around the Nieuwe Diep and the Buitenveld play an important role. A lot of work will take place here between 2027 and 2035. According to the current planning, 2029 is the last year in which the area is still largely suitable for a major event.”
If it turns out not to work, it may well be that there will be no Sail Den Helder at all: “If it later turns out that 2029 is not feasible, all options will be reconsidered. Not organizing Sail is a realistic outcome.”
