Sad Bilal Ould-Chikh is disappointed by the crisis at FC Volendam: “It hurts my heart”

The state of affairs at FC Volendam also affects the players of FC Volendam. Bilal Ould-Chikh shows himself vulnerable after the 3-1 defeat against Feyenoord. “It hurts my heart that it has to turn out this way,” says the attacker, who was upset about the crisis at the club.

A lot has happened at FC Volendam in the past week. On Tuesday, trainer Matthias Kohler was suspended and Michael Dingsdag took over his duties. Yesterday the news came that team manager Hans Bakker would take his place in the dugout for the last time against Feyenoord. “If we had a voice in these things, certain people would have stayed,” Ould-Chikh says.

For a while, FC Volendam seemed to be smiling again, but in the end they ended up empty-handed after the late goals against Feyenoord. Afterwards, Ould-Chikh had the feeling that there was finally a team that was going through the fire again. “We have let each other down in recent games,” he says. “That wasn’t the case here.”

“You are proud, because you heard in advance that we would go away with 7-0, 8-0,” says Ould-Chikh, who heard that his team was showered with compliments from Feyenoord. “Eventually you can continue with this.”

In the first half, FC Volendam only had 15.8 percent possession of the ball, but the score was still 1-1 at halftime. Lequincio Zeefuik shot past Volendam after a good move, after which it tried to get a point over the line until the ninetieth minute. Things went wrong in the final minutes after Feyenoord striker Santiago Giménez scored. “We mainly held back, pushed and worked hard. I saw maximum fighters today,” says interim coach Michael Dingsdag, who looks back proudly on the match in De Kuip.
