Tophavoritin Aryna Sabalenka and defending champion Iga Swiatek have reached the round of 16 at the French Open.

The world ranking sabalenka, who chases her first Paris title, won 6: 2, 6: 3 against the Serb Olga Danilovic on Friday afternoon and thus remained in the third match in Paris without loss of sets.

Swiadek prevailed against the Romanian Jaqueline Cristian 6: 2, 7: 5 and won her 24th match in series in Roland Garros. The Polish is the first woman to triumph in Paris four times in a row in the era of profit tennis since 1968.

In the round of the last 16, Sabalenka meets the number 16 Amanda Anisimova from the USA. Sabalenka, who won the Australian Open and once the US Open twice, has not previously got past the sandplace grand slam in Paris beyond a semi-finals (2023).

Swiatek now has to deal with Kazakhin Jelena Rybakina (No. 12) that the former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia/No. 21) gave no chance in 6: 2, 6: 2.
