Ruud van Nistelrooij was shocked by PSV, but still believes in the title

Enough food for thought for PSV. Despite the 5-2 victory, it did not convince. Trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij and Anwar El Ghazi were also shocked by the game from the first half. Nevertheless, the belief in the title remains present among the people of Eindhoven.

SC Cambuur should have taken a 3-1 lead after half an hour of play. Luck for PSV was that Joël Drommel made an important save and the visor of the Frisians’ attackers was not sharp.

“I didn’t see any energy or urge to move forward”, Van Nistelrooij looked back on the weak initial phase. “It was stagnant football. We played at 80 percent with pressure. That is not possible.”

“I see this as an incident.”

It is remarkable, because it is not the first time that PSV has been surprised by a low flyer. It previously lost away games against FC Groningen, FC Emmen and SC Cambuur. “I still see this as an incident,” said the trainer afterwards. “Many of those matches have been six months ago. I have no further explanation for it.”

The trainer indicates that it is a good time to point out that every game requires 100 percent effort to win. Goal scorer Anwar El Ghazi agreed with those words. That it was difficult, according to him, is not a problem. “Of course you want to play good football, but if that doesn’t work, then ugly. Look at Feyenoord, they often score in the last minute and are at the top.”

“If we win everything, there is a good chance that we will become champions.”

Feyenoord is still the team that PSV is chasing. In Eindhoven they have not yet given up hope for a national title. “The challenge is what makes it beautiful. We can’t afford anything anymore,” said van Nistelrooij.

Anwar El Ghazi was even more convincing. “If we win everything, there is a good chance that we will become champions.”
