“It is terribly sad,” responds presenter Rutger Castricum. “That certainly does something to me.”
Ex-footballer Royston Drenthe suffered a cerebral infarction; what exactly is that?
Overweight
The former professional footballer recently took up the challenge with Wesley Sneijder and Wim Kieft to get fit again for a new PowNed program.
In the four-part series, which will be broadcast on NPO3 from November, the gentlemen go back to the training regimes of their heyday for three months under the guidance of personal trainers, nutritionists and top athletes. According to the broadcaster, the urgency for these role models to take action is greater than ever, because 50 percent of adult Dutch people are overweight.
Rest
Castricum cannot and does not want to say anything about what the health situation of Drenthe, who is currently in hospital, means for the program. “Peace around him and for his loved ones is the most important thing now,” he responds. “I now find it very unimportant what it means for the program. My thoughts are with Royston and his loved ones.”

PowNed boss Dominique Weesie adds that he is “very shocked” by the news. He hopes that Drenthe will make a full recovery.
Wim Kieft
Remarkably, Wim Kieft was also in the news last month because of his health situation. After maintenance on his artificial knee, something turned out to be wrong. Shortly afterwards an infection occurred, after which major surgery was required. He also stayed in a care center for a while after this operation. The recovery would take a while.
