There is little left of Rutger Castricum’s former bravado. Particularly when he sits at the talk show table of Today Inside, he often comes across as a bit dorky. Why is he so shy there?

It is a bit embarrassing: Rutger Castricum was once the man who embarrassed others, but now he himself is often the awkward moment at the table on television. Recently he was completely criticized in Today Inside because of his new glasses frames and he had no answer. He clearly had no attitude.

Stupid things

Rutger knows that he is being taken the piss at such a moment, he says in the column In The Walkways. “It’s often those very stupid things, like those glasses or something. I understand that that works, yes. Then I just let myself be used for a while. That’s how it is, isn’t it? You drive here and think: I have to let myself be used every now and then.”

Wilfred Genee is surprised: “Is that different with Hélène? The funny thing is: I once took over from Hélène on Sunday evening and then you were so quick and you kept attacking me. You went all out. That was really good.”

Different flow

Richard Krajicek thinks that Wilfred reveals what he thinks of the VI-Rutger with that question. “You mean he’s not here at all?”

Wilfred: “No, but I still think it is because he is sitting here with Johan and René and then ends up in a different flow.”

Rutger: “That is of course true. This program revolves around the three men, I think, and then you play a supporting role, so to speak. I really think so, yes.”

‘You were good then’

Wilfred expected more from Rutger. “Yes, if that’s how you experience it… But then I really thought you were good. Then I said: ‘We should take that guy more often!’ No, I don’t mean that you are now… But I think you get a little swamped here every now and then.”

Rutger: “You know your place a bit, right? That’s also what you do. When I’m with Hélène, I can do more on one broadcast and less on the other. Yes, you also look for your moments a bit.”

Wilfred concludes: “You have to be present to some extent. That’s fun!”
