The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has sent a contingent to Kazakhstan, reports “RIA News” with reference to the message of the organization’s secretariat.

From Russia, the contingent included units of the airborne troops. According to the report, the country’s military transport aircraft are currently deploying the Russian part of the peacekeeping contingent to Kazakhstan.

“The advanced units from its composition have already begun to fulfill the assigned tasks,” the CSTO said in a statement. The military contingent of the organization will have to guard military and state facilities in Kazakhstan.

On the night of January 6, the chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced the decision to send peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan to “stabilize and normalize the situation in this country.” Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov confirmed that the country is ready to support Kazakhstan within the framework of the CSTO.
