Nine Ukrainian citizens died in the night from Friday to Saturday by a Russian drone attack on a bus in the northeastern region of Soemy. IHOR Tkatsjenko, head of the military administration of the region, has reported via Telegram. Five people were also injured.
The bus was hit when it was on its way to the regional capital Soemy, close to the border with Russia. The National Police of Ukraine described the attack as a “cynical war crime” without “considering the only one on international laws or humanity.” Russia has not given a direct response, but has stated that it has hit a “military collection point” in Soemy.
The reported attack took place only a few hours after the first direct peace conversations between Russia and Ukraine since 2022. Those conversations did not cause any breakthrough. An agreement was reached on a prison exchange.
