Russia: Khimki investor throws out coach Cherevchenko again – ex-Bochumer Yuran to return

Without consulting management

Coach Igor Cherevchenko has to leave FK Khimki again. The 47-year-old was released at the end of October after a poor start at the Premier League club, but was brought back just a month later. The four games that followed were no better than before. With just two more points and bottom of the table, we went into the long winter break.

Despite the sporting misery, Cherevchenko should stay until the end of the season and prepared the team for two months for the second half of the season, which he will no longer experience with Khimki. After a 7-3 friendly defeat against Samara, investor Tufan Sadygov pulled the ripcord on his own – a week before the start of the second half of the season, on the deadline day of the current transfer phase, after the preparations had been completed and all transfers had already been made. Cherevchenko confirmed on Tuesday that he had agreed to an early contract termination.

TM Info: Cherevchenko fired without consulting Khimki’s management

As Transfermarkt.ru learned from an employee of the club, the club is shocked by the decision made by Sadygov on Monday evening without any consultation with management or the team. The patron has announced that he has already found the right successor in Sergey Yuran.

He should sign with Khimki for a year and a half and keep his post even in the event of relegation. Former Bundesliga professional Yuran (VfL Bochum and Düsseldorf) had coached Khimki twice – in 2008 and most recently between January and July 2020. Under his leadership, the club had risen and reached the cup final. However, the coach was subsequently unexpectedly dismissed due to a conflict with the club’s management at the time. For him, Khimki will probably have to pay a fee to SKA Khabarovsk, where Yuran is still under contract until the summer.
