Russia does not put ultimatums to the United States, but considers their logic flawed

Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE Alexander Lukashevich spoke at the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council.

Lukashevich suggested that the member countries of the organization stop perceive Russia as an adversary… Such an approach is considered dangerous and flawed in Moscow. The Russian diplomat called the consultation mechanisms the best way to solve problems.

Speaking about Russia’s proposals for security in Europe, Lukashevich called them an attempt negotiate linesthat cannot be interceded.

“This is not an ultimatum, … but an invitation to professional, substantive discussions on issues of war and peace,” Lukashevich stressed.

Russia’s proposals were a response to the destabilization of the military-political situation in the OSCE region, Alexander Lukashevich continued.

In Moscow’s view, the further deterioration of the situation carries unacceptable risks to Russia’s security.

That is why Russia is demanding legally binding agreements from the United States and NATO to refuse to expand the alliance to the east. The same applies to the deployment of strike weapons systems near Russian borders, Lukashevich said.

“One of the main reasons for the systemic degradation of the OSCE is the policy of the United States and NATO to contain Russia,” the diplomat concluded.
