Running in the heat is how you do it responsibly: ‘You hope that runners actually do this’

It is the nightmare of every running event: a participant becomes unwell and dies. Last year this happened at the Leeuwarden marathon, and on Sunday several people became unwell due to the heat at the Groningen marathon. Wilbert Lek, Managing Director of Golazo Events, who is responsible for the HiPRO Utrecht Marathon: “I am always asked ‘when is an event successful? That is really when everyone is safely back home.”
