Rune Dahmke and his wife not only combine sporting success. They have been wearing a golden memory on the finger for months.
The Norwegian-German handball dream couple Rune Dahmke and Stine Author Dahmke not only celebrated success on the field, but also experienced a real happy ending privately. The two have been a couple since 2017, seven years later they married in Dahmke’s hometown of Kiel – shortly after a sporty summer.
Both were in the final of the Olympic Games in Paris. While Dahmke won silver with the DHB team, gold often won gold with Norway. It was the next triumph for the native of Oslo in a career in which she was able to win numerous titles. Until their end of career, often one of the most successful handball players was one of the end of their career. She became world champion three times, five times European champion. In addition, she won the Champions League three times with her Hungarian club Győri Eto KC. In 2019 she was recognized as a world handball player. In the last game of her career, she added the gold medal of her collection.
“My time as a handball player is over,” she said at the time. “I felt a lot of emotions. I am also excited because I don’t really know how it will be, but I feel fulfilled and done in many ways.” And further: “To be able to end my career in this way is almost a little too good to be true,” she said, and pushed after: “It’s the ultimate dream, without a doubt.”
Shortly afterwards she moved to Dahmke in Kiel, where she has now found her center of life. The 31-year-old has been an integral part of German handball for years. The left wing of the THW Kiel became European champion in 2016 and won Olympic silver in 2024. He is a five-man German champion and also Champions League winner. His career is closely linked to his hometown Kiel. “I’m at home here,” said Dahmke in an interview with “Bock on handball” and emphasized how much he means closeness to family, friends and his club.
The two got to know each other through a joint contact in a game in Paris, where it was often visiting. Dahmke’s earlier teammate Erlend Mamelund, also Norwegian, made the two known – the beginning of a love that was put directly to the test because of the distance between Kiel and the Hungarian Györ. Dahmke once said about the long -distance relationship: “It helps a lot that we both practice the same profession. We never have to explain.”
After the end of often active career and moving to Kiel, the couple now has the chance of everyday life together. The wedding – in which she wore an elegant cream -colored satin dress and he shone in the blue suit – was not only celebrated in the handball scene. Numerous celebrities and sports stars such as footballer Alexandra Popp and ex-handball player Dominik Klein congratulated publicly.
Love also connects the two with another handball star on a family level: Stine sister Hanna, also a former handball player, is married to the Norwegian top player Sander Sagosen. The couple became a son’s parents in July 2023. Dahmke already knows Sagosen from three years together at the THW Kiel.
